According to global market research institute iSuppli, the US consumer market for LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs is expected to see strong growth in the fourth quarter of this year amid tightened credit and financial turmoil, due to the approaching Christmas sales season. The institute reported that consumer demand for LCD TV will be fuelled by the launch of models with improved functionality and economical prices, and that 32-inch models in particular, will be one of the best sellers, mainly due to the decrease in its unit price to USD 299. Continuously lowering unit prices have apparently been a trend in the LCD TV market in 2009, according to iSuppli. The price of a 46/47-inch model, for example, is expected to decrease to less than USD 1,000 the first time in the fourth quarter, while the 42-inch model is also expected to cost about USD 639 compared to USD 768 in 2008.
