4 March 1999: Andreas Kmen, head of the commercial glass division of Austria“s Stoelzle-Oberglas AG of Koeflach, has said that he is “very satisfied” with German subsidiary Stoelzle-Oberglas Lausitz GmbH of Weisswasser. The company, which primarily produces drinking glasses for the catering sector and increasingly for retail, became profitable in 1998. It has also witnessed a gradual improvement in domestic demand; Lausitz generated 70% of its DM 15.5 million turnover abroad in 1998. Lausitz is planning to invest DM 5 million in putting a second production line into operation in 1999, which would require a further 28 employees. The Lausitz plant currently employs 120 people. In 1998, the entire group generated turnover of DM 255 million (+5%). Over-capacity on the marketplace, however, is said to have put pressure on prices.
