30 July 1998: US-based Southwall Technologies Inc. said it has named Thomas Hood its president and chief executive on a permanent basis. Hood, 43, assumed the positions in March on an interim basis following the resignation of Martin Schwartz, who left the company to pursue other interests. Hood has worked for Southwall since 1981 and has served in various management roles within the company, Southwall said. “The board is pleased with the company“s progress in recovering from the disappointing results in the first quarter of 1998, and we believe that Tom will successfully lead the company“s business activities to the achievement of the corporate goals,” Southwall Chairman Larry Smart said in a statement.
