Solarban® 90 glass earns 2016 Readers’ Choice Award from USGlass magazine

Solarban® 90 solar control, low-emissivity (low-e) glass by Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) has won a 2016 Readers’ Choice Award from USGlass magazine in the category of primary glass products.

The industry’s first quad-silver-coated glass, Solarban 90 glass combines a true neutral-reflective appearance with outstanding solar control. In a standard 1-inch insulating glass unit (IGU) on clear glass, Solarban 90 glass has a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.23 and visible light transmittance (VLT) of 51 percent, which yields an exceptional light-to-solar-gain (LSG) ratio of 2.22.
Earlier this year, Vitro Glass made Solarban 90 glass available on its full array of performance-tinted glasses, including Atlantica®, Azuria®, Optiblue®, Optigray®, Pacifica®, Solarblue®, Solarbronze®, Solargray® and Solexia® glasses. For added transparency, Solarban 90 glass also is available on Starphire Ultra-Clear™ glass.
Solarban 90 glass represents a significant technical advance because its solar control, low-e coating incorporates a fourth layer of silver with nanoparticles. Vitro Glass product developers can manipulate the nanoparticles in this portion of the coating stack to control the reflectivity, color and solar performance of glass, and thereby expand the palette of appearance and performance options available to architects.
Created with input from architects desiring a clear, neutrally reflective glass, Solarban 90 glass meets requirements of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ program at the Bronze level. Vitro Glass has more architectural glass products certified by the program than does any other float glass manufacturer.
