11 March 1999: The US soda ash and sodium bicarbonate business has a new player in the form of America Soda Ash, a joint venture of Williams Companies and American Alkali. According to a recent report, the venture is expected to start construction of a major unit at Creek Basin, Colorado. Initial production will be one million tons/year of soda ash and 150,000 tonnes/year of sodium bicarbonate, with commercial shipments starting from January 2001.
