29 January 1998: Sklarny Kavalier Sazava of the Czech Republic reported a gross profit of Kc 131.5 million up to the end of November 1997, meeting its full-year plan, economic director Jaroslav Krajc said. Revenues from sales of own products in January-November totalled Kc 1.472 billion, against Kc 1.434 billion in 1996. The firm, however, failed to meet planned sales by Kc 100 million. While the average wage in the company grew 11.4% year-on-year, labour productivity rose only 7.3 %. “This is the second time the firm has shown this disproportion. It is essential to start a reverse trend in 1998. Otherwise our products will be expensive and hard to sell. This would ultimately lead to a reduction in output,” Krajc said. In November the company employed 2,076 people. The average workforce since the beginning of last year totalled 2,113 people, down 3% year-on-year.
