An investigation is under way after a fire broke out at the Quinn Glass Plant at Derrylin, Northern Ireland, due to a leak of glass from one of the two furnaces into a containment area below the furnace. Ten units of The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, with 126 firefighters, worked for 11 hours to tackle the blaze. Four people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. According to a statement from the company, there is no risk to the jobs of the 378 people employed at the plant or supply to customers, since the second furnace is unaffected and full production is expected to be restored within two weeks. The Quinn Glass plant produces glass containers for the food and drinks industry.
