Coatings, glass and chemicals supplier PPG Industries announced in August 2004 that customer evaluations are under way for its Innofiber DCS fiberglass, a product designed to improve the quality and processing efficiency for screen manufacturers and others. Available in G75, G150 and DE100 yields, the fiberglass“ durable compatible sizing, or DCS, generates minimal fuzz and broken filaments during processing in customer operations, reducing the potential for breaks in the continuous-strand product year round, according to PPG. The non-starch oil sizing also bonds well with polyvinylchloride, polyester, vinylester, epoxy and other resin matrices, according to the company. “Developing innovative products that help customers improve their quality and efficiency reflects our commitment to being a global leader in the fiberglass industry,” said Vicki Holt, PPG“s vice president of fiberglass. Manufactured in Lexington, North Carolina, Innofiber DCS fiberglass is available worldwide. Holt said production of PPG“s newest product is expected to increase during the rest of 2004. “Reducing down time is a critical priority for customers,” she said. PPG is one of the world“s largest manufacturers of continuous strand fiberglass, with eight manufacturing facilities worldwide, focused primarily on the global electronics, thermoplastics and general industrial markets. Pittsburgh-based PPG posted 2003 sales of USD 8.8 billion.
