12 February 1998: Italian tyre and cable maker Pirelli recently said its 1997 gross consolidated profit had risen 12.1% to ItL 762 billion. In a statement outlining its preliminary results, Pirelli said sales had risen 10.2% to ItL 11.282 trillion, while net financial indebtedness fell 52% to ItL 490 billion. Pirelli said its debt-to-equity ratio was 0.11 compared to 0.27 in the previous year.
