Pella Corp. an Iowa-based window and door maker, announced 21 February 2005 that it is to build a manufacturing plant in the western Illinois city of Macomb, creating 480 new jobs. The state of Illinois is providing up to USD 7 million in state grants and tax incentives to help Pella Corp. launch the 25,550 square meter factory, set to open in March 2006, state and local officials said at a news conference. The incentive package includes corporate income tax credits for 10 years, funds for workforce training and a grant to the city of Macomb to provide water and sewer services to the 18 hectare site. “This new manufacturing facility will be a tremendous addition to the city of Macomb, acting as a major provider of quality jobs and a key contributor to the economic vitality of the west central region,” Governor Rod Blagojevich said in a statement. Pella will produce a new line of historical look windows at the Macomb plant, said Mel Haught, president and chief executive officer of the company, founded in 1925 in Pella, Iowa. The state financial support is part of Governor Blagojevich“s “Opportunity Returns” economic-development program, which invests in businesses to “keep our state“s economy moving forward,” said Jack Lavin, director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
