Further to a decision reported in Glassonline World News in January, the Indian Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission has implemented its ban on American Natural Soda Ash Corp. (Ansac) exporting to India. Ansac is made up of six US producers (FMC, General Chemical Soda Ash Partners, Solvay Minerals, Keystone Chemical, Tg Soda Ash and North American Chemical). The ruling does not prevent individual members of Ansac from exporting to India independently. The Indian soda ash market is estimated to be about 1.67 million tonnes in 1997, most of this supplied by the three main Indian producers.
