According to a recent report, world famous Dresden Crystals will make debut in India next month with a leading German lead crystal producer clinching an export order to market a range of its products. In a sign of growing interest by German Mittlestand (medium-sized companies) in India, a 130-year-old firm – Dobern Glassworks – has tied up with a Delhi-based firm to export vases, lampshades and bowls made of lead crystals. “For the first time in the entire history of Dobern Glassworks, we were able to receive an Indian customer,” said Dobern“s marketing head Frank Mader, after what he described as very successful negotiations with the owners of its Indian partner, Angelique International, recently. Mader said the concrete order was an important step and there was a real chance for the Dobern Glassworks to substantially enlarge its business in India. According to Mader, lead crystal is being allowed to be imported into India without any restrictions only from this year. German exports to India mainly cover engineering, metallurgical, chemical, pharmaceutical and mining products, the report said.
