US-based FMC Corp. and Solutia Inc. said they will name their phosphorous chemicals joint venture Astaris LLC. In a recent press release, the companies said Astaris will be based in St. Louis, Misouri, and will operate twelve phosphorus and phosphate products manufacturing plants in seven states and in Brazil. The companies said they are seeking governmental approval in the US and Brazil to form the venture, and expect completion in the fourth quarter of 1999. The companies said FMC“s plants which would become part of Astaris LLC are located in Lawrence, Kansas; Carteret, New Jersey; Kemmerer, Wyoming; Green River, Wyoming; Pocatello, Idaho and Dry Valley, Idaho. Solutia said it would include its Augusta, Georgia; Carondelet, Misouri (St. Louis), and Ontario, California plants as part of Astaris LLC, as well as the phosphorus chemicals units at Trenton, Michigan; Sauget, Illinois; and Sao Jose Dos Campos, Brazil. The venture will have Gene DeJackome as vice president of sales and marketing, Margaret McCarvill as chief financial officer and vice president of business development, and Jim Kaiman as vice president of operations and technology. FMC Corp. produces chemicals and machinery for industry and agriculture. Solutia produces chemicals, fibres, polymers and resins.
