At the CSR annual shareholder meeting on 5 July 2007, newly appointed chief executive Jerry Maycock hailed as a success the USD 690 million acquisition of Pilkington Australia, the largest deal for the company since its 2003 demerger from Rinker Group. Mr Maycock told shareholders he felt confident that he had demonstrated real growth options for the company through actions as well as talk, although he said the review was not over “by any means”. He acknowledged the work of predecessor Alec Brennan, saying he had provided a platform on which to grow. CSR announced plans in June 2007 to build a AUD 50 million glass wool insulation plant in Queensland and Mr Maycock said “we see that whole energy efficiency space as being extremely interesting for CSR”.
