Atofina Chemicals, Inc. announced 9 September 2004 that it has entered into a letter of intent with Stewart Engineers and Associates for the development and promotion of on-line, turn-key pyrolytic coating technology for flat glass. On-line pyrolytic coating technology is integrated into the glass manufacturing process and can be used to produce a variety of products, including low emissivity glass and self-cleaning glass. “We“re pleased to develop a working relationship with Stewart Engineers,” commented Clem McKown, global commercial development manager for Atofina Chemicals. “We believe that each party brings complementary capabilities to the partnership. The combination of our experience in glass coating technology and Stewart Engineers“ expertise in float bath engineering will broaden the opportunities available to float glass manufacturers and expand the market for pyrolytic [low emissivity] coatings.” Leslie Stewart, founder and president of Stewart Engineers agrees. “The partnership will accelerate development of pyrolytic coating technology and expand horizons for glass manufacturers seeking differentiation in an increasingly competitive environment.” Stewart Engineers is headquartered in Flat Rock, Michigan. Founded in 1986, Stewart Engineers is a supplier of float bath technology to the glass industry. Since its inception, Stewart Engineers has designed and installed over a dozen float baths worldwide. Atofina Chemicals is a supplier of proprietary glass coating formulations and application systems and has provided coating innovations to the glass industry for over twenty years.
