23 April 1998: Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. said that operation of its glass joint venture in Mexico with South Korean firm Samsung (see GlassOnline report of 18 December 1997) will be delayed, due to a financing problem on the Samsung side. “We do not expect production to begin before the end of this year,” said a spokesman for Asahi Glass. The companies set up a joint venture, Video Monitores de Mexico SA de CV, to build a three-billion-yen factory to annually make four million glass funnels for cathode-ray tubes. The factory was initially scheduled to start production in August.
