Wiegand-Glas invests in renewable energies

As an energy-intensive company, Wiegand-Glas knows that it is important for its future that the company generates renewable energy close to its glass plants.

Wiegand-Glas therefore focus on the continuous expansion of corresponding installations and recently installed more than 18,000 solar modules on around 42,000 square metres of the roofs of the warehouses in Großbreitenbach, Germany.

The installed capacity is 7,933 kWp. The PV system will go into operation this spring and generate around 7 GWh of green electricity per year. This corresponds to the annual electricity requirements of around 2,000 3-person households or around 7.5 percent of the electricity requirements of the Wiegand-Glas group’s manufacturing companies at the Großbreitenbach site.

The use of local, renewable generation plants, such as the new PV system in Großbreitenbach, helps to secure Wiegand-Glas’ productions sites in the long term and remain competitive.
