Walker Glass: bird-safe glass explained – Episode 1, The Issue

Walker Glass is embarking on a new journey to help highlight the importance of bird-safe building practices, the company is developing a video series in collaboration with Dr. Daniel Klem, Jr., renowned ornithologist and professor of biology at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, called “Bird Safe Glass Explained.”

In this series, they will go through multiple facets of the bird deterrence issue that has plagued architects and building professionals for years. Each episode will focus on specific aspects of the phenomenon, from the causes of bird-window collisions, to potential solutions and what has already been done to help reduce the frequency of bird strikes.

The first episode, titled “The Issue,” presents the gravity of the problem, with up to 1 billion birds dying due to collisions with glass surfaces each year in North America alone. It also emphasizes the importance of finding solutions to this problem, which we will present in more detail in the next video, “The Solution.”
