Vidrala’s 260G bottle recognised at the international Red Dot Awards

Vidrala has strengthened its position among the world’s leading names in design after receiving two Red Dot Awards for its 260G bottle, recognised in the Packaging Design and Sustainable Design categories during the awards ceremony held on July 7 in Essen, Germany.

These internationally recognised awards establish the new 75cl Bordeaux wine bottle – the result of close collaboration between Vidrala and LiDA Laboratory in Design and Arts, Polytechnic of Leiria within the Embalagem do Futuro project – as a benchmark in the evolution of ultra-lightweight and highly efficient glass packaging.

Weighing just 260 grams, the bottle has been designed to reduce raw material consumption while optimising manufacturing and transport processes, helping to lower its environmental footprint without compromising the strength, quality and performance required by the market. Specifically, it weighs 30 percent less than a conventional bottle, features 20 percent less surface area, contains up to 80 percent recycled glass and allows 115 additional bottles per pallet, improving transport efficiency by 7 percent.

The award also marks another international milestone for 260G following its appearance at Expo 2025 Osaka, where it featured as one of the highlights of the Meaningful Partnerships exhibition at the Portugal Pavilion. There, it was presented as “probably the world’s lightest 75 cl wine bottle”, reinforcing a journey that brings together collaboration, applied design and industrial sustainability.

Since its inception in 1955, the Red Dot Awards have become one of the world’s leading design competitions. Each year, manufacturers and designers from across the globe submit their most innovative developments to an independent jury, which assesses entries under the principle In search of good design and innovation and recognises only those products demonstrating outstanding design quality, functionality, innovation, durability and sustainability.

These awards also reflect Vidrala’s long-standing commitment to applying design excellence to glass packaging through MasterGlass, the company’s platform for fostering creative and technical talent dedicated to exploring new glass packaging solutions.
