Glass packaging manufacturer Vetropack Austria, a subsidiary of Swiss Vetropack Holding, is to invest EUR 11 million (USD 13.47 million) in 2005 in its production plant at Poechlarn, Lower Austria, company general director Rudolf Schraml said on 14 September 2004. The money will be used for renovation of one of the two furnaces as well as for expansion of the recycling facility. The plant will also improve its quality control. Vetropack Austria, which also operates a production plant in Kremsmuenster, Upper Austria, makes some 1.2 billion items a year of glass packaging, ranging from beer bottles to jam jars. The firm has a workforce of 630. Because of unfavourable market conditions at the beginning of summer 2004, Vetropack Austria does not expect its 2004 sales to reach the previous year“s record high of EUR 117 million (USD 143.26 million). Falling sales on the Austrian market were partly offset by foreign sales. The company currently exports one third of its production.
