Verallia: Knottingley plant – a century of glassmaking in Yorkshire

Verallia’s Knottingley plant has reached a symbolic milestone: Companies House, the official UK business registry, has issued a certificate recognising 100 years of continuous operation under the name Gregg & Co.

The site’s history dates back to 1874, when a glassworks was established on the banks of the Knottingley Canal. Officially incorporated in 1925, the company is now celebrating the milestone recognised by this centennial certificate.

Originally focused on producing food jars, the factory has evolved significantly over the decades. Since joining Verallia in 2022 through the acquisition of Allied Glass, the site has continued to build on its heritage and expertise.

Today, Knottingley remains the hub of Verallia’s most specialised production: complex, low-volume, bespoke bottles that have built their reputation in premium packaging for spirits.
