It has been announced that a partnership has been set up between Mr. Conrad Houser and Ms. Patricia Gaddis to form the US-based United Soda Ash Company, which will purchase soda ash from one or more of the six US suppliers and resell it to those consumers using less than 25,000 tons per year. Half of all soda ash is bought by glass makers, but Ms. Gaddis says USAC“s customers represent a broad spectrum of consumers. USAC“s main purpose is to increase their purchasing power. Based in Green River, Wyoming, US, the source of most of the country“s soda ash, the partnership has verbal commitments from buyers and has sent out bid packages to the six sellers: FMC, General Chemical, Oriental Chemical, Solvay Minerals, North American and TG Soda Ash. USAC hopes to commence deliveries in January 1997. Ms. Gaddis has spent 20 years in the soda ash business, including a 10-year stint at Tenneco (now Solvay). She worked for General Chemical and most recently spent three years as a consultant on the Wold project, a still-in-the-works plan to build a new trona mine in Wyoming capable of producing approximately 600,000 tons of soda ash. Mr. Hauser is an engineer and attorney who also worked on the Wold Project.
