16 April 1998: Tuboscope and Sudamtex of Venezuela announced the formation of a fibreglass tubular joint venture to manufacture and sell products in Andean pact countries. Tuboscope Inc. (Tuboscope) and Sudamtex de Venezuela CA (Sudamtex) reportedly decided on the project for the purpose of manufacturing and marketing premium fibreglass casing, tubing, and line pipe for use in South American oilfields. The venture, Star Sudamtex Tubulares CA, will be based in Caracas, Venezuela, and is 50% owned by Sudamtex and 50% owned by Tuboscope. Initially the company is expected promote the use of Tuboscope“s Star fibreglass tubulars, and later intends to construct a fibreglass tubular manufacturing plant in Venezuela after achieving certain sales goals.
