UK-based Build Check Ltd. specialists in acoustic testing, air tightness testing (air permeability testing and air leakage testing), and consultancy services for the building industry and manufactures of doors and windows, has launched The Oracle, a fast track solution to Part L compliance. The Oracle is an on-line resource centre that will, according to Build Check, enable subscribers to calculate U-values for windows and doors in almost all common frame materials. While most attention has been on Window Energy Ratings (WERs) in recent months, the announcement that whole window U-values would be an accepted route to prove compliance to Part L has almost not been noticed. However, it is now becoming widely recognized as a fast, reliable and efficient method. The Oracle, which includes a library of technical information and specifications that can be used by fabricators, installers, systems companies or sealed unit manufacturers, has been designed to make the process of calculation simple, quick and cost effective. The U-value of a chosen frame and sealed unit combination – PVC-U, timber or aluminium – can be calculated and compared to the target of 1.6 W/m2K for windows and 1.8 W/m2K for doors. Build Check, approved by the BFRC as an Independent Agency, has certified Simulators to provide thermal simulations, carry out product certification audits and implementations, also guiding companies through processes required, along with offering on-site weather performance analysis and other services for fenestration and building industry clients.
