Further to the story in the previous edition of Glassonline World News, Thai Glass Industry Plc. has now announced that construction work has begun on its Bt 900-million (US$ 34.6 million) glass container factory in Vietnam. In an official statement last week, the Thai company said that the facility, located in the southern province of Bin Duong, will be operational by October 1998. The factory is owned by Vina Glass Industries Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of Thai Glass. The Australian-Vietnamese firm Hai-Van Thies Constructors will build the plant, Germany“s Projects and Construction Management GmbH is project manager and Owens-Brockway of the US will supply and install machinery, the statement said.
