25 June 1998: At this year“s Tendence fair in Frankfurt, Germany (29 August-2 September), the organizers Messe Frankfurt will again be offering a design presentation service which, in previous editions, has been judged by professional visitors and exhibitors as being particularly useful in decision making. The service, “extra 98”, provides a showcase for international designers to present the latest trends in the design of objects. At its meeting in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, earlier this year, Messe Frankfurt“s TrendTable committee chose the designers Renny Ramakers and Daniel Rozensztroch for the extra 98 presentations. The committee was made up of Paul Alexander Linse and Christianne Mller (Amsterdam), Franziska Mller (Zurich), Franziska Kessler (Paris/Zurich), Nicolette Naumann (Messe Frankfurt), as well as the two designers themselves. Both designers will examine the influx of traditional styles in current design trends. The Dutch art historian and journalist Renny Ramakers (one of the founders of the “Droog Design” label) will present “familiar”, showing how archetypal forms reappear in modern design, while France“s Daniel Rozensztroch (style director for the magazine Marie Claire Maison) will present “zen & kitsch”, a study of how Western home design forms a symbiosis with traditional elements of Far Eastern design.
