US-based Southwall Technologies Inc. said Robert Freeman has joined the company as chief financial officer and senior vice president, finance. Freeman succeeds Bill Finley, who left the maker of thin film coatings nearly a month ago, a spokesman said. Southwall“s coatings, which selectively absorb, reflect or transmit electromagnetic radiation, are used in automotive and electronic glass products to improve optical and thermal performance characteristics. On August 1, the company said it would have to restate first-quarter results due to inventory recording errors, adding this would result in loss instead of the previously reported profit. At the same time it said second-quarter revenues rose to US$ 21.5 million from US$ 13.5 million last year. Since then, Southwall has been named in several shareholder suits. On August 22, Southwall said the review of its previously reported results continues and second-quarter results will not be reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission in a timely fashion. That review is now “in the wrap-up stage,” the spokesman said. The company said Freeman has held positions of chief financial officer for several large engineering and construction companies over the last 15 years. Most recently, he was the senior vice president, CFO of Rosendin Electric, a US$ 240 million Silicon Valley-based electrical contractor specializing in design-build work for technology companies.
