The Slovak Cabinet approved tax relief worth SKK 1 billion for 12 companies operating in Slovakia on 15 April 2004, and the companies may also apply for several tens of millions aimed at retraining workers and creating jobs. The 12 beneficiaries are Bloomsbury Pacific Slovakia in Lucenec, Gabor (Banovce nad Bebravou), Leoni Autokabel Slovakia (Trencin), Hella Slovakia Signal – Lighting (Banovce nad Bebravou) and Hella Slovakia Signal – Lighting (Kocovce), Kappa (Sturovo), Johns Manville Slovakia (Trnava), Vetropack (Nemsova), Fermas (Slovenska Lupca), SCA Hygiene Products (Gemerska Horka) and Dell (Bratislava), as well as the Slovak company Matador of Puchov. Economy Minister Pavol Rusko said the Cabinet took the decision in order to fulfil a previous promise to foreign investors. The applications had been dormant for over a year. So far only 12 companies out of 37 original applicants have been approved, but Rusko did not comment on the selection criteria.
