Slovak glassworks Slovglass Poltar posted sales of SKK 690 million (USD 18.8 million/EUR 16.7 million) for the 1H of 2003, compared to SKK 723 million (USD 19.7 million/EUR 14.5 million) for the corresponding period of 2002, the company“s production director Lubomir Zan said on 19 September 2003. Slovglass Poltar expects to generate sales of over SKK 1.0 billion (USD 27.2 million/EUR 24.2 million) for 2003, Zan added. The company posted a loss of SKK 80 million (USD 2.2 million/EUR 1.9 million) for the first seven months of 2003 due to the strengthening of the Slovak crown against the U.S. dollar and the British pound. The company“s exports totalled SKK 1.032 billion (USD 28 million/EUR 25 million) for 2002, while the volume of production sold in the local market stood at SKK 86.3 million (USD 2.3 million/EUR 2.1 million). The company currently has 1,450 employees, down by 300 compared to the beginning of 2003. Slovglass Poltar, which markets over half of its production in the USA and UK, is preparing to enter the Japanese and Australian markets.
