9 July 1998: Regina Razlova, the Skloexport glass company board chairwoman who is facing charges of insider dealing, has been escorted from Prague“s Pankrac prison hospital to Prague“s Ruzyne prison, according to a recent press report The prison had complied with Razlova“s request that she been given a cell to herself, officials said. “Mrs. Razlova will be guarded just as any other prisoner currently in custody. No special treatment, no special changes or special measures,” said one official. Razlova had been in the hospital at Pankrac prison since 3 June, when a court in Liberec, North Bohemia, took her into custody. She was hospitalized on the basis of a medical report she submitted during her custody hearing. Doctors at Pankrac found no reason why she should not be sent to a normal prison cell, however, and she was transferred to Ruzyne. Razlova, a former actress and the daughter of Communist deputy premier Stanislav Razl, was arrested last month. She, her father and her son Lukas are accused of siphoning off Skloexport“s assets into other companies, a phenomenon which has become known in the Czech Republic as “tunnelling”, the report said. She was arrested on the Czech border on 2 June (see GlassOnline report of 18 June 1998) and taken into custody the following day. Reports of the alleged tunnelling of Skloexport began to appear last year. The company“s minority shareholders overthrew the board, but Razlova managed to regain control.
