The Czech glassmaker Sklo Bohemia posted a Kcs 5 million profit in 1999 after two straight years of losses, according to a recent press report. Sklo Bohemia had turnover of Kcs 1 billion last year, company financial director Zdenek Cakl said. Cakl attributed the profit to a 15% reduction in costs in 1999, and to success in the US market, which received about 20% of Sklo Bohemia“s production of lead crystal. The company cut its workforce by 100 to 1,500 last year, and reduced inventories by Kcs 70 million. Production increased by 10% in 1999 and this year Cakl expects it to climb another 18%. The company“s largest shareholders are Bohemia Crystalex Trading with 51%, and the Quartemanina Invest Fund with 43%.
