Linked to its planned flat glass plant at Russe, Bulgaria, Turkish glassware group Sisecam is interested in taking under concession part of the city“s port on the Danube, Russe regional administration said on 23 April 2003. Sisecam plans to construct a flat glass plant near Russe investing up to USD 200 million (EUR182 million) in the construction project. The plant will be built on an 63.7 ha area worth BGL 600,000 (USD 339,000/EUR 308,000). Construction work is to begin in June 2003 and will be completed in 2005. The annual capacity of the flat glass plant will be 200,000 tonnes and 70% of the output will be exported. The new plant will create 189 jobs. The Bulgarian Government previously pledged to invest up to BGL 10 million (USD 5.6 million/EUR 5.2 million) in improving the infrastructure, gas and electricity supply in the region adjacent to the plant. The plant will purchase raw material from Bulgarian feldspar, kaolin and silica sand producer Kaolin.
