At glasstec 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for the glass industry, taking place from October 20 to 23 in Düsseldorf, Kuraray’ Advanced Interlayer Solutions (AIS) officially introduces SentryGlas Acoustic® (SGA®), an innovative interlayer engineered to combine outstanding structural performance with advanced acoustic insulation capabilities. This launch represents a significant step forward for architects, engineers and glass laminators seeking solutions that simultaneously meet growing demands for safety, comfort and sustainability.
The new product combines a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) core, responsible for sound attenuation, with two outer layers of SentryGlas® that provide the characteristic mechanical strength of the SentryGlas® family. Thanks to this hybrid structure, SGA® delivers a unique combination of noise reduction, impact resistance and structural stability, even in applications exposed to high design loads.
Initially developed for glazing applications exposed to demanding conditions where structural and acoustic performance are equally critical, SentryGlas Acoustic® is particularly well suited for closed-edge applications such as airport windows and overhead glazing in building atria. In these projects, the new interlayer enables thinner and lighter glass configurations than conventional acoustic PVB-based solutions, contributing to improved material efficiency and more elegant designs.
Testing conducted by Kuraray demonstrates that SGA® significantly reduces perceived noise at specific frequencies compared with conventional SentryGlas® and achieves acoustic insulation values comparable to those of specialised acoustic PVB interlayers. At the same time, it maintains structural performance that exceeds that of all PVB alternatives currently available on the market. In addition, it preserves the outstanding optical properties that distinguish the SentryGlas® range, including high transparency, exceptional visual clarity and effective UV protection.
Sustainability also plays a key role in this development. Thanks to its high structural capability, SentryGlas Acoustic® enables a reduction in overall glass thickness in many applications, resulting in lower raw material consumption, reduced glazing weight and lower emissions associated with manufacturing, transportation and installation. This allows designers to contribute to decarbonisation goals without compromising acoustic performance or structural safety.
During glasstec 2026, visitors will have the opportunity to experience this new solution first-hand and discover how Kuraray continues to drive innovation in laminated safety glass. With SentryGlas Acoustic®, the industry no longer has to choose between strength, acoustic comfort and sustainability. It is now possible to achieve all three in a single solution.
