South Africa“s leading polymer and yarn producers Sans Fibres, part of the listed AECI group, has announced it would invest R 60-million in doubling polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polymer production at its Bellville site. The new plant would focus on producing top quality PET resin, used in a plethora of packaging applications touching the lives of millions – most notably 500ml and 2 litre softdrink bottles. The company said in a statement the latest technology, sourced from Sans Fibres“ international partners in Switzerland, would be incorporated at Bellville and would increase production from 72 tonnes to a challenging 180 tonnes per day. Sans Fibres is one of two PET resin producers on the continent and has maintained its global reputation for producing a top quality PET product since 1982. Despite having been active in export markets like New Zealand, Australia, Israel and South America over the years, their focus will be on satisfying the demand of the Sub-Saharan African region.
