Saint-Gobain SA, the French glass and building materials company saw net profit for the year 2000 grow 24% to EUR 1.52 billion from EUR 1.23 billion a year earlier. The company also stood by its prediction of 10% growth in net profit before capital gains for 2001. Net profit in 2000 before capital gains rose 16% to EUR 1.03 billion from EUR 883 million the previous year. Operating profit also increased 16% to EUR 2.69 billion from EUR 2.31 billion, on revenues that grew 26% to EUR 28.83 billion from EUR 22.96 billion. Of the EUR 28.83 billion in revenues for 2000, some EUR 7 billion, or 24% came from North American operations, up from EUR 5.31 billion or 23% of total revenues of EUR 22.95 billion in 1999.
