7 October 1998: Saint-Gobain recorded 9.2% increased turnover of FFr 57.691 billion for the first half of 1998 compared with FFr 52.846 billion of the same period in 1997. Operating profit increased 13.9% from FFr 5.059 billion to FFr 5.776 billion and net profit increased from FFr 3.356 billion to FFr 3.448 billion. The first half 1997 net profit figure included capital gains totalling FFr 899 million. Industrial investment decreased from FFr 3.886 billion in the first half of 1997 to FFr 3.685 billion in the first half of this year.
