Glass collected for recycling in Illinois city Springfield could soon have a new place to go rather than being stockpiled to then be used in construction projects, as it has been for the past five years. This decision was made because of the expense involved in hauling heavy glass away to the few existing glass refractories. However, the city of Springfield now has a new market for its glass with Ripple Glass of Kansas City, which will not only accept the glass but will also pay to haul it away. Ripple Glass will then process the material, making it ready for use in fiberglass insulation products. Because of this new agreement, the city will also accept glass from area municipalities. Springfield City Council still has to give final approval to the contract with Ripple Glass.
