Rioglass Astur, S. A., which has three plants in the Asturias region of Spain, was the center of attention for a regional trade delegation to South Africa on 1 April 2008, when it visited the PG Group glass plant near Johannesburg which supplies the Spanish firm. Following explanations from PG Group plant manager Bob Thompson and a visit to the production facilities, the director general of Rioglass, Alberto Puente Antua, said that Rioglass buys products from the South African firm ranging from flat glass to finished glass products, particularly architectural glass and glass for domestic use. He emphasised that Rioglass has lately been buying highly transparent glass for maximum sunlight transmission which the Spanish firm uses at its new plant at Lena to make parabolic mirrors for thermosolar energy production. The Lena plant opened in January 2008.
