quipbaie mtalexpo took place at the Paris Porte de Versailles exhibition centre 16-19 November. The 2010 show marked the arrival of Stphanie Auxenfans as director of the Construction Division of Reed Expositions and the focus was on two topical subjects, the new 2012 Thermal Regulations and accessibility. The event occupied 40,000 sq.m. of exhibition area, and attracted 360 exhibitors and 22,210 visitors, most of which were company directors and buyers, which in turn delighted the exhibitors. In fact, although visitor numbers for the show were slightly down this year, they were drawn from the same number of companies as last time and the result was a very high quality body of visitors largely made up of decision makers. This shift stemmed from a drive to reduce costs, given the difficult economic situation, which is having an impact on business travel. The geographical and business activity breakdowns were similar to those of the last show in 2008, whilst international visitors rose and, this year, accounted for 11% of total visitor numbers. Over 250 innovations were presented at the show and these enabled contractors, tradesmen, manufacturers, merchants and specifiers to discover all the solutions being offered by the exhibitors in aid of improved energy performance, accessibility, safety, security and comfort answers to all the problems they face today, and tomorrow. This show has allowed me to discover the world of construction and I must say that I have found it enthralling. What“s more, this quipbaie mtalexpo was highly rated by the exhibitors, who were pleased with the visitor quality. In short, mission accomplished. For the next show, we will be following developments in the market in order to adapt the exhibition“s themes and events to reflect the primary concerns of the construction profession. However, before we get to 2012 we have BATIMAT and we are already working on it to create new services that will make it easier for exhibitors to prepare for their participation and, above all, to make it pay, said Ms. Auxenfans. A conference programme of 40 lectures and talks was organized to provide a review of the latest developments all the major themes in the market for windows and doors, faades and metal for construction. The Architects“ Meetings enabled specifiers, who accounted for up to half the audience, to discover original and sometimes spectacular projects from which to draw inspiration. These included the renovation of the First Tower and the social housing of the rue Saint-Antoine Paris. The prize-giving ceremony for the second Performance Awards served as an opportunity to celebrate major innovations paving the way for the exploitation of free and renewable sources of energy in compliance with the 2012 Thermal Regulations and their likely ongoing evolution over the years to 2020. The next edition of quipbaie mtalexpo will take place in November 2012.
