Quinn Glass Ltd, part of the business empire of Irish entrepreneur Sean Quinn, posted a pre-tax profit of GBP 9.5 million (EUR 14 million) in 2004, down from almost GBP 10 million (EUR 14.9 million) the previous year. Turnover increased by GBP 4 million (EUR 5.9 million), however, to just over GBP 55 million (EUR 81.7 million). After paying GBP 2.8 million (EUR 4.2 million) in taxes, the company had a retained profit for the year of GBP 6.7 million (EUR 9.9 million). The company, which employs 340 staff, is entirely controlled by the Quinn family. Quinn Glass has extensive glass interests in Ireland, and is expanding rapidly in the UK, where it is involved in a court room battle with Rockware over planning permission for the giant new Quinn Glass container plant in Chester, north-west England.
