PPG Industries“ performance glazing business has introduced Graylite II glass, a rich, almost-black glass that has, says the company, been enhanced to provide significantly better solar control performance than original Graylite glass. Graylite II glass has, in a one-inch insulating glass unit with clear glass, a solar heat-gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.21, which is 36% greater than the original composition, while retaining the aesthetic appearance of the original glass, but with slightly lower visible light transmittance (VLT) of 8%. Graylite II glass is part of PPG“s Earth & Sky collection of nature-inspired tints and has a SHGC of 0.35 and VLT of 9%, which enables it to satisfy a variety of glazing applications, including privacy glass.
