Positive outlook for the energy-saving building glass market

According to the “Research Report about China’s Building Glass Market in 2010-2013” real estate was in a slight downturn, while the demand of housing is still positive.

Thanks to the ongoing and continuous development of glass technology, building glass not only satisfies daylighting requirements, but also has characteristics of light adjustment, heat insulation, art adornment and safety, etc. As the requirements for glass are changing, glass technology has made new breakthroughs, including laminating, tempering, ion exchange and glazing decoration, enabling building glass to be used in many more applications. The demand for building glass has therefore increased rapidly, second only to cement and steel among building materials.
Energy-saving building glass, for example, mainly includes heat-reflective coated glass, hollow glass and low radiation (low-E) glass etc. Heat-reflective coated glass can reflect heat radiation, and can insulate or absorb heat in different seasons, but has low transmission. Moreover, low-E glass not only provides good daylighting, but also avoids light pollution phenomenon.

However, the demand of housing is still positive. And during “ Twelfth Five Years Plan”, China will build about 36 million affordable residential houses. Most of these new buildings will use energy-saving glass to cater for the current requirements of energy conservation and emission reduction. Energy saving building glass has tremendous market potential and good prospects.
