Britain“s Pilkington, one of the world“s largest producers of pane glass, is likely to invest around Zl 20 million this year in its glass factory Sandoglass in Sandomierz, according to the financial director of Sandoglass, Wallace Sadowski. Recently, Pilkington announced it had increased its share in Sandoglass from 56.29% to 75%. The group paid Zl 55 million for an 18.6% stake. “A final decision about the investments has not been made yet, but I expect them at least at the level of several million,” said Sadowski. The investments are to continuously improve our production quality. We intend to gain the highest quality and the lowest wastes he stressed. We are already one of the 4 technologically best Pilkington factories out of a total of 36. The company is planning to increase its domestic market share by 5% this year, from the current 40% – 45%, according to Sadowski. Production capacity is to be increased to 170,000 tons annually. Currently Sandoglass produces 164,000 tons of glass a year. A full 18,000 tons annually is exported, mainly to Eastern European markets. A full 10,000 tons are exported to Germany and some to Finland.
