Following the successful completion of a pilot project which began in July 2000, FreeMarkets, Inc., the US online marketing services operation, has signed a new agreement with UK glass group Pilkington. Under the terms of the agreement, FreeMarkets will continue to provide Pilkington with access to its B2B Global Marketplace. Pilkington will use the service to purchase goods and services for its worldwide operations. “Pilkington is a pioneer among Europe-based companies in the use of eSourcing solutions, and joins a growing number of automotive suppliers who are turning to FreeMarkets to source significant volumes of strategic items for their operations,” said Kent Parker, vice president and general manager of the automotive sector at FreeMarkets. According to FreeMarkets, Pilkington has so far sourced in excess of US$ 25 million through the FreeMarkets B2B Global Marketplace and has identified substantial savings. “FreeMarkets“ unique combination of technology, information and services have, to date, enabled us to reduce the costs of the goods and services we buy, whilst maintaining the high standards of quality our customers expect,” stated Julie Craig, Global e-Purchasing Manager at Pilkington.
