Pilkington Plc. is claiming to have won what it is calling the world“s largest single order for architectural glass. The UK 8 million order is for the supply of 112,000 sq. m. of glass to clad the terminal at Malaysia“s international airport in Kuala Lumpur. It involves the delivery of 100,000 sq. m. of 10 mm grey anti-sun glass, which will be made up into double-glazed units in Malaysia, and a 12,000 sq. m. “Planar” structural glazing system, which will be made in the UK and assembled on site. The Planar units incorporate a laminated inner leaf of two panes of clear, heat-strengthened glass, with the outer anti-sun pane toughened and heat-soaked. Delivery of the glass has already started, with the contract expected to be completed by the end of the year. The contract overturns the previous record, also set by Pilkington, for the supply of 81,000 sq. m. of architectural glass for Hong Kong“s new Chek Lap Kok airport. But the Hong Kong order is still the more valuable, at UK 13.5 million. The company also recently supplied glass cladding for airports in Brisbane, Australia, the Chilean capital Santiago and Frankfurt, Germany.
