At a signing ceremony on 28 April 2005 in the presence of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, Pilkington CEO Stuart Chambers and the President of the Kazakhstan investment fund Zeinulla Kakimzhanov signed a memorandum on cooperation for a new glassworks in the central asian republic. The project is part of the industrial innovation strategy for the development of Kazakhstan, 2003-2015.
