The Philippines Department of Trade and Industry has imposed higher tariffs on imports of clear float glass from Indonesia and Malaysia following findings that manufacturers from both countries had been involved in product dumping. Named in the tariff order are the Indonesian firms Muliaglass, Tensindo, Tunggal Majuasri and Abdi Rakyat Bakti, plus Malaysia Sheet Glass Berhad of Malaysia and NSG Hong Kong. The order is based on a report by the Philippines Tariff Commission which conducted formal investigations after formal allegations filed by local manufacturer Republic Asahi Glass Corporation. The Commission examined import records for 1998 and found that local manufacturers suffered injury arising from the influx of imported clear float glass at dumped prices. The government dismissed a Republic Asahi claim that the same Indonesian manufacturers also dumped tinted float glass on the Philippines market.
