The US-based glass packaging group Owens-Illinois has signed a ten-year deal with Enron Energy Services for the management of its electricity and natural gas supply. The agreement covers 53 Owens-Illinois plants in 20 states and will cover planned energy purchases amounting to over US$ 2 billion. “Securing affordable, reliable energy is a key element of our strategy to be the low-cost producer in every market we serve,” said Richard A. Jun, vice president of corporate purchasing for Owens-Illinois. And according to Lou Pai, chairman and CEO of Enron, over the length of the contract, Owens-Illinois will see existing cost-control strategies “significantly enhanced” by the addition of Enron expertise in energy efficiency and risk management.
