The intentions of US-based Owens-Illinois Inc. are to close down two of its glass container production plants by the end of 2000. The closing of the two plants, one in Brockway, Pennsylvania, and the other in Lakeland, Florida, is part of the company“s restructuring plan. According to a recent press release, Owens-Illinois has improved its production and is now able to produce more glass containers in fewer plants. The production of the Brockway and Lakeland plants can, therefore, be transferred to other plants belonging to the company. Once the shutdown of the two plants has taken place, Owens-Illinois will have 19 plants across the US.
