18 February 1999: Owens Corning Chairman and CEO Glen H. Hiner has announced that Curtis H. Barnette, chairman and CEO of Bethlehem Steel Corporation, has been elected to the Owens Corning Board of Directors. Mr. Barnette has held his current position at Bethlehem Steel since 1992. Previously, he was senior vice president and director of the company from 1986 to 1992, and general counsel and secretary from 1977 to 1992. He joined Bethlehem as an attorney in 1967. Owens Corning is a world leader in building materials and glass fibre composite systems. The company had 1998 sales of US$ 5 billion and employs about 20,000 people worldwide.
